About the workshops

The nurturing of the new writer from beginning to end of a course is something all who come to these workshops and one-to-one sessions have found offered support.

The workshops take place in a relaxed, friendly, atmosphere; this does not mean that those who come find a soft approach. Those who attend work hard to stretch themselves in challenging, always exciting projects towards moving on in their creative development. Writers at all stages are welcome.

The workshops usually number between six to eight persons. This enables a student to have the space necessary to discuss their ongoing work and receive feedback.

Each writing group will run for 3½ hours (depending on the numbers) All the group sessions last seven consecutive weeks and must be paid in advance.

Starting a novel or a short story?

(On seven consecutive Tuesdays)

Each writer has twenty minutes at the first meeting to discuss what they’d like to achieve. And thereafter about twenty five minutes each week to read work they’ve done at home and receive feedback. New writers will find it helpful to attend the Exercise Workshop to gain the necessary writing tool kit.

A Springboard to Creative Writing

(Monday evenings & Friday afternoons)

For Dates of Workshops in 2007,

Please

These workshops are perhaps the most exciting and rewarding of all which is why we offer two choices, Monday Evening sessions, and Friday afternoon sessions. New writers and writers at more advanced stages will find them beneficial. (When I studied with Carol Burns in the 1980’s, I found her writing exercise classes more inspirational then any other in the exploration of the imagination alone. My own classes have always been popular because they:

1.

Get rid of blocks.

2.

Free your imagination.

3.

Springboard you into new creative work you had not begun to dream about.

4.

Pinpoint what you’ve been searching for to enhance your present work.

5.

Strengthen your powers of observation and concentration.

In these exercise writing classes we will look at:

A.

A range of human emotions - i.e. anger, love, loss, joy, birth, death, sex, war, fear, betrayal, shock, delight, failure, compulsion, etc.

B.

Learn to make each character in a story individual.

C.

Using newspapers/magazines/compile characters, plots, images for our work.

D.

Record and use our dreams to enhance our work.

E.

Learn the balance of humour and tragedy, bringing them, as in life, together in our work. Also numerous other exercises for your future tool kit.
